Friends of Plymouth District Library is a primary sponsor of the library’s programs. In addition to helping finance library programs, the Friends periodically produce our own events to highlight local topics of interest or raise awareness of issues effecting libraries.
Previous Programs
2023: Literacy Liberty for All: a community Q&A – A panel of local experts provided their perspective on concerns facing libraries today, the first amendment & right to read, how libraries select books, and why representation matters. Audience questions were solicited and included in the discussion. This presentation was presented in partnership with Friends of Canton Public Library.
2023: Devan Anderson, Senior Project Architect at Quinn Evans, and President of the Board of Directors for Preservation Detroit, spoke on the organization’s aim “to create a Detroit where cultural, architectural, and community preservation is integrated into every aspect of the city’s development.”
2022: Kelli Dobner, Chief Advancement Officer for Samaritas, spoke on “New Americans Refugee Services.” Samaritas is one of the country’s largest providers of refugee services, resettling families from all over the world.
2021: Barbara McQuade, University of Michigan Law School professor and former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, spoke on “Liberty, Safety and the Rule of Law.”
2019: Mark Wallace, President and CEO of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, shared some their triumphs, what is around the corner and long range plans for this ambitious organization.
2018: Ron L. Kagan, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Detroit Zoo shared what’s on the horizon for this state-wide treasure.
2017: Michele Hodges, President of the Belle Isle Conservancy, whose mission is to protect, preserve, and enhance Belle Isle.
